Hello there, beautiful friends!
Can you believe how quickly this year is already flying by?! I have so many new recipes, life hacks, and health insights that I can’t wait to share!!
However, before January 2018 slips away, I wanted to share my “word for the year” that will be influencing my goals throughout 2018… before it’s too late! 🙂
I love the concept of New Year’s resolutions, but I’ve never been a big “resolution maker” myself.
I’m not against this resolution tradition, it’s simply not one that I have historically practiced. I’m naturally very reflective and goal-oriented, so I’m frequently reviewing my direction and goals… Just usually not as an event to mark the start of a new year! 😉
The first time I heard my friend refer to her “word of the year”, I immediately loved the idea! I don’t know if this is a widely-spread tradition, but it was new to me. 🙂 Since then, I’ve enjoyed taking the time to reflect on my life quest by using this single word reflection method.
I was struck by the power of refining your journey and goals down to a single word that you could then use as a guiding beacon during the ups and downs of daily life and moving forward into the new year.
My word for 2018 is Light.
Whatever we focus on in life we create more of in our lives, so I’ve decided to focus on the Light. I want to be the Light in dark places, so I must learn to focus on the Light instead of the darkness.
Our world can be a dark and discouraging place at times. But even in the most devastating darkness and despair, if you choose to look for it, there will be Light shining through. Sometimes its rays are shredded and tattered, but it will transform the dark spaces that it penetrates.
Such Light can be as simple as a kind word or gesture, the feeling of a warm cup of tea on a cold day, the gift of a true friend, a smile from a stranger, or the beauty of creation- the extravagance of sunrises and blades of grass.
Looking for Light means looking for beauty in the midst of brokenness.
I want to pursue Light emotionally and spiritually, but also in the physical sense of less possessions and a lighter, more intentional lifestyle!
Do you have a “word” for 2018? Or do you make New Year resolutions? 🙂 I would love to hear yours as well!
I hope this New Year is full of rich discovery and blessing in your life- and more Light.
